Case Studies

Case Study 1: Mobile Content Portal Billing

The Problem
Our client, a new entrant in the mobile video and content download sector, needed to implement a system to charge mobile operators an appropriate rate for content usage by mobile phone users based on time of day, volumes of downloads, numbers of new customers and level of premium value. They also needed to provide detailed categorised usage and invoicing records to the content providers for the running of their platform. The solution vendors were offering expensive variants of their mediation platforms or subsets of rating and billing products.

The Solution
We identified the requirement as a variant of the settlement systems that telecoms operators use to charge each other for interconnection between networks for call transport and termination. We suggested an innovative use of a tried and trusted product, available at a much lower price and far quicker and cheaper to implement.

The Outcome
The company was able to implement the platform with the help of our project management consultancy for a saving in development costs of approximately 17% compared to other solutions.

Case Study 2: Mobile Billing Across National Boundaries

The Problem

The client was a mobile operator, pledged to its shareholders to reducing costs and cutting out replication in an operation across multi-national boundaries, yet wanting to be first to launch an incentive based scheme for users (e.g. send 100 texts in a month and get so many downloads free) in several different countries. Three different IT teams were engaged in developing a solution utilising the different capabilities of three separate platforms when we were called in.

The Solution
We ran a series of workshops to define a Service Oriented Architecture solution for the problem which helped to identify how one system could be built and implemented to provide the functionality in a three phase integration project.

The Outcome
The company beat its competition for the marketing launch and avoided duplication.
